OGUN PROVIDES MORE SOLAR PANEL STREETLIGHTS FOR RURAL COMMUNITIES

In continuation of the Light Up the Rural Communities initiative of Ogun State government, the State Ministry of Rural Development has installed Solar panel street lights in Ogo-Oluwa community, Surulere, Ileese Awo, Abeokuta and Albert Taiwo Matuluko in Ijebu North-East Local Government area of the State. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Adetayo Adewale, said the initiative was in line with the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration's agenda in providing lights for rural communities where the National grid could not get to, saying the provision of solar lights would illuminate the communities, as well as bring positive social change to the rural communities. The Permanent Secretary, represented by the Director of Rural Electrification, Engr. Ismail Balogun, said the project would contribute immensely to the improvement of lives of the dwellers, affirming that the solar panel lights are dependable and sustainable sources of light for the community

UNILAG bows to pressure, cuts down tuition fees

The authorities of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Akoka have finally cut down its obligatory and some other fees being charged to the students. The university reduced the fees on Thursday evening following the marathon meeting that lasted for more than five hours with the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) held at the institution. The meeting was at the instance of UNILAG management who invited NANS’ leadership to jointly find an amicable resolution to the crisis and continuous students’ protest that trailed the fees increment since July. By this development, according to the university’s spokesperson, Mrs Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, N10,000 has been removed from the current obligatory fees being charged the fresh students across the board, while N20,000 is removed from that of the returning students. FG certifies blue rail safe for passenger operations

By Jimisayo Opanuga The Federal Government has certified the blue rail infrastructure of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) as safe for passenger operations, according to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA). LAMATA, in a statement on Thursday, stated that the certification follows a painstaking audit of the rail infrastructure by the Government Inspector of Railways from the Federal Ministry of Transportation. It also noted that the certification is in accordance with sections 50 to 56 of the Nigerian Railway Act, 1955. According to the “Safety Certificate for Commercial Operations: Lagos Rail Mass Transit, Blue Line (Marina – Mile 2).” “The certificate signed by Government Inspector of Railways, Engr. Kano thumbs up Ogun on CNG conversion

A team of engineers from Kano State has praised the government of Ogun State for pioneering the conversion of diesel and petrol engines to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). The team, led by the Director of Transportation, Kano State Ministry of Transport, Engr. Mahmud Musa Seriki was in  Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on a mission to understudy the conversion process. It would be recalled that the Ogun State government had embarked on the conversion to eliminate the effect of the recent removal of subsidy on fuel. Ogun State House of Assembly has acknowledged the receipt of a list containing the names of additional ten Commissioner Nominees from the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun. A release signed the Clerk/ Head of Legislative Service, Mr. 'Deji Adeyemo indicated that the new Nominees would be screened by the State Lawmakers tomorrow, Wednesday 13th September, 2023 at 2.00pm prompt. The new nominees are: Hon. Adeleye-Oladapo Adijat, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun, Mr. Sofela Adebola Emmanuel, Hon. Ilori-Oduntan Olufemi,  Engr. Dairo Oluwagbenga, Hon.
