Motorcycle Operators Union Debunks Fake Ticket Claims In Lagos

The Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN) has categorically denied allegations that the tickets it sells to commercial motorcycle operators in Lagos are counterfeit. In a statement issued in Abuja, National President Alhaji Rasak Olusola Sotayo described the claims as misleading and aimed at tarnishing the union's reputation. Sotayo assured that MOUN would never engage in illegal activities, adding that the Lagos government recognises that the union is duly registered under the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.    He also stressed that the union is committed to maintaining transparency and integrity. The Articulate Motorcycle Owners & Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN) convened an extended state executive meeting on August 21, 2024, at the union's state secretariat in Adatan. The meeting was attended by all members of the union's state executives, as well as branch and unit chairmen. During the gathering, Mr. Kazeem Lawal, the union's Vice Chairman, provided an update on recent developments within AMORAN. AVOID DISTRACTED RIDING OF MOTORCYCLES" Every commercial motorcycle riders, must ensure that safety and safe riding is a top priority whenever they are on the road. Most times, distracted riding is the cause of many fatal accidents or crashes recorded. It involves any activity that takes a rider’s attention away from the road and this is particularly prevalent among young commercial-motorcycle riders. There are three main types of distraction riding; *visual, manual, and cognitive*. Visual distractions take your eyes off the road, manual distractions take your hands off the wheel, and cognitive distractions take your mind off driving. Report Okada Riders With Reckless Driving- ROMO Boss Urges Passengers

The Chairman, Riders and Owners of Motorcycles Organisation (ROMO) in Ogun state, Dr. Sotayo Olusola Rasak has appealed to passengers to report any form of reckless driving by Okada riders to the appropriate authorities in the state. Sotayo also warned riders to desist from reckless driving and fake ticketing, which he described as against the principles and conducts of transport unions.  The Chairman, while speaking at the Organisation's excos meeting  in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, lamented that several lives have been lost and many had some parts of their bodies amputated as a result of reckless driving. FG certifies blue rail safe for passenger operations

By Jimisayo Opanuga The Federal Government has certified the blue rail infrastructure of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) as safe for passenger operations, according to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA). LAMATA, in a statement on Thursday, stated that the certification follows a painstaking audit of the rail infrastructure by the Government Inspector of Railways from the Federal Ministry of Transportation. It also noted that the certification is in accordance with sections 50 to 56 of the Nigerian Railway Act, 1955. According to the “Safety Certificate for Commercial Operations: Lagos Rail Mass Transit, Blue Line (Marina – Mile 2).” “The certificate signed by Government Inspector of Railways, Engr. The Ogun state leadership of the Articulate Motorcycle Owners & Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN) has felicitated with the Treasurer of the Union, Mr. Lekan Oguntayo who turns another year today, 22nd of August, 2023.  In a congratulatory message issued by the mouthpiece of the union; Otunba Taofeek Sokoya (a.k.a Danku), the celebrant was described as agile, dedicated, visionary and hardworking who has brought his potentials to bare, in ensuring the progress of the Union.  The message partly reads, "On behalf of the entire executive members of our great Union, I congratulate our very amiable treasurer, Mr Lekan Oguntayo on the occasion of his birthday".  "As another chapter of your life begins, I wish you a memorable year with tremendous exploits".

Detained NURTW President regains freedom, sues for peace

The President of National Union Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Prof. Tajudeen Baruwa, has regained his freedom from police detention .He cautioned members of the union against making inflammatory statements that could undermine its stability. The advice came against the backdrop of the misunderstanding within the union, which led to the deployment of police to ‘safeguard’ its secretariat. Baruwa, who spoke at a briefing in Abuja, yesterday, clarified the events that led to his detention, alongside former Lagos State chairman of the union, Tajudeen Agbede According to him, the police action was taken in response to plans by certain groups within the union to stage a protest at the national secretariat located in Garki 2, Abuja. “We are calling on our members across the states to be calm, peaceful and law-abiding in their daily activities,” said Baruwa.
