OPP Convener Faith Daniel Commends OGSIEC, Ogun Government on Successful LG Poll, Congratulates Newly Elected Chairmen

The Convener and Director General of Ogun Progressive People (OPP), Olola Faith Daniel, has extended heartfelt congratulations to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and all the elected local government chairmen on their victory in the recently concluded local government elections.   In a press statement released Monday, a day after the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) Chairman, Babatunde Osibodu, announced the results in Abeokuta, Faith Daniel commended the transparency and peaceful conduct of the election from all indications.   The APC achieved a clean sweep, winning all 20 local government chairmanship positions and all 236 councillorship seats in the elections held on Saturday. Ganduje spoke to newsmen in the company of former Plateau state governor, Simon Lalong, in his office in Abuja. The governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, has dismissed the application filled by the counsel to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Gordy Uche, SAN,  seeking for stand down after witnesses presented damning evidences against petitioners. The second respondent at the Ogun State Election Petition Tribunal, Governor Dapo Abiodun, on Tuesday closed his defence of the petition filed against his reelection by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ladi Adebutu. Mr Abiodun in his defence accused Mr Adebutu of engaging in vote buying which according to him led to “willful disruption” of election by suspected thugs. The governor, who opened his defence on Friday, called six witnesses, including an official of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and a staff of Zenith Bank, voters and party agents. Mr Abiodun also tendered documents including his West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate, the report of the production of 200,000 units of top-up ATM cards by Mr Adebutu, a letter of authority from the petitioner to open a Zenith Bank account from which the top-up cards were preloaded with N10,000 each and a paper showing the sample of the preloaded cards. The Ogun State Chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has said its former Chairman, Mr Oginni Olaposi Sunday remained expelled from the party. The party, also, maintained that the party’s Presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso remains one of the major pillars of the party. The 12th National Executive Committee meeting of the All Progressives Congress is currently ongoing at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is the party’s leader, arrived at the venue around 12: 20 pm to signal the start of the meeting.
