Ijebu North NYCN Fulfikls Promise, Presents Prizes To Youth Essay Competition Winners

The Ijebu North chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has kept its promise by awarding cash prizes to the winners of its maiden Youth Essay Competition, which took place between August and September 2024.

At its quarterly meeting held at the Senator Biyi Durojaye Complex, Ijebu North Local Government Secretariat in Ijebu Igbo on Friday, October 18, 2024, winners were presented with cheques for their respective prizes. The top prize of fifty thousand naira (#50,000) went to Osonowo Deborah, while Fadipe Timileyin and Adebanjo Toyyibah, who placed second and third, received thirty thousand (#30,000) and twenty thousand naira (#20,000) respectively.

In her address, the grand prize winner, Osonowo Deborah, who was represented at the event due to her ongoing youth service in Port Harcourt, expressed gratitude to the NYCN in Ijebu North ably led by Ogbeni Abolaji Adeniyi Sobowale and in particular, the Directorate of Education and Training, headed by Miss Marayesa Ayokunle, for providing a platform that allowed youths to showcase their writing talent. She commended the youth council for fulfilling its promise of rewarding the winners and noted that such programmes would inspire youths to strive for greater achievements in future editions of the competition.

In his remarks, the Youth Council Coordinator, Ogbeni Abolaji Adeniyi Sobowale (a.k.a IMPACT) congratulated the winners and confirmed that the competition would be an annual event throughout his tenure. He also praised the Directorate of Education and Training for its efforts in making the competition a success and encouraged them to raise the bar for next year’s edition.

The event was graced by prominent figures, including Mr. Gbenga Okuneye (Youth Officer, Ijebu North Local Government), Mr. Ganiu Adebamiro (State Youth Officer, Ijebu North Local Government), the Head of Department for Community Development, Ijebu North Local Government, Comrade Shittu Adedigba (Programmes Officer, Ogun State NYCN), as well as all heads and members of affiliated organizations. The members of the Directorate of Education & Training, Ijebu North NYCN was also represented by Comrade Onanuga Ibrahim.
