Stop Exploiting Fuel Hike with Excessive Fares, AMORAN Warns Members

The leadership of the Articulate Motorcycle Owners & Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN) has issued a stern warning to its members across Ogun State regarding the arbitrary increase of transport fares.

Speaking during an extended State Executive meeting in Abeokuta on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, the State Chairman of the union in Ogun, Otunba Taofeek Sokoya, emphasized the need for members to support the efforts of the Ogun State government in alleviating the current economic challenges.

“We urge our members across Ogun State to desist from taking undue advantage of the recent hike in fuel prices by charging exorbitant fares. This does not serve our interests, nor does it align with the government's efforts,” Sokoya stated.

He further lauded the efforts of Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun CON, for his numerous initiatives aimed at easing the hardship faced by citizens, stressing the need for AMORAN members to complement these efforts. “While the rise in fuel prices is undeniable, it does not justify inflated transport costs that far exceed the actual distance traveled.”

Sokoya also encouraged riders who have received the DA E-bike to utilize it in a way that fulfills the initiative’s purpose - reducing transportation costs.

“Many riders who have embraced the E-bike initiative have reported significant savings. One rider shared that, while he previously spent at least ₦6,000 daily on fuel, with the E-bike, ₦1,250 is more than sufficient to power his daily routes. The governor has done a tremendous job with this initiative, and we must reflect this in the fares we charge. Charging your E-bike battery costs far less, and it directly benefits both riders and passengers.”
