OJUDE OBA IPERU: PLANS TO RESUSCITATE CELEBRATION UNDERWAY, AS ALAPERU UNVEILS 2024 EDITION TOMORROW

The Alaperu of Iperu, His Royal Highness, Alayeluwa Oba Adeleke Adelekan Idowu-Basibo, FIEX (Odoru V), will on Sunday, 8th October, 2023, formally unveil the 2024 Ojude Oba Iperu Celebration.

The Unveiling Ceremony will hold at his palace commencing from 2pm. To drive the process, a committee led by Alhaji Taiwo Oyebanjo, was earlier inaugurated on Sunday, 3rd September, 2023 at the Alaperu Palace.

Expected to join the monarch tomorrow at the historic event are the Executive Chairman of Ikenne Local Government,  Honourable Olusegun Ogunleye, who will formally present the Certificate of Recognition to the Ojude-Oba Iperu Planning Committee.
Royal Fathers from Iperu, including the Ebi of Idena, His Royal Highness, Oba Lukman Adebambo Salami; Representative of the Idarika Regency Council; the Onimeji of Imeji, His Royal Highness, Oba Kayode Olayebo; the Alagbehinsa of Agbehinsa, His Royal Highness, Oba Isiaka Ogunnaike; and the Alaregun of Iregun, His Royal Highness, Oba Abraham Adedoyin Ogunfowora; High Chiefs; and Baales from the town will also be in attendance.

The event will also have in attendance, League of Imams and Alfas, Muslim Clerics, and some Leaders of Thought.

The age-long carnival-like event, the celebration of which dates back to 1882, during the reign of  Oba OKUPE (Agbonmahbe II), has been on hold for some years, but the Iperu Development Association, under the able leadership of Chief Babajide OYETI, and with the royal blessings and consent of the Alaperu, has decided to resuscitate and repackage it to the admiration of all.

The celebration is usually used to pay homage to the King in his abode or any other appointed venue, where participants which cuts across all religious affiliations, comes together on the third day of Ileya to honour the king, celebrate the town's socio-cultural-heritage, and promote oneness among themselves, in the spirit of the season.

The need to once again revive the rich socio-cultural heritage, initiated by the forefathers of Iperu cannot be over-emphasized. This according to the Chairman, will among others, help re-open peer group and age-grade values, increase social interaction among indigenes, especially during the Ileya festival, boost tourism potentials of the town, as well as restoring the good old memories of the past.

He therefore call on all sons and daughters of Iperu, both old and young, at home, and in the diaspora, regardless of religious leaning or persuasion; business owners, corporate  establishments to embrace and support this thoughtful idea and ensure the successful relaunch, reintroduction, and sustainance of the newly-repackaged age-long heritage of Iperu Akesanland.
