120 suspects arrested, 100 remanded over cultism, says Abiodun’s aide

Subair, a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, said the state government would give no breathing space to troublemakers, adding that war against cultism was total. He spoke on Friday during a security meeting with the Akarigbo and paramount ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi. Stakeholders in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State on Monday debunked claims in a viral online video that a 10kg bag of rice was given to be shared as palliative in Sokeye Community. At a meeting called by the leadership of the council to explain how the palliatives meant to alleviate the pains occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy were distributed, stakeholders said the formula used to share the bags of rice is the best they've ever seen in the state. Ogun State government on Sunday raised the alarm over the ongoing attempt by opposition politicians to rubbish efforts by the state and the federal governments to provide relief to the vulnerable people to cushion the effects of the recent subsidy removal. The state government warned Nigerians to be wary of the antics of such politicians who have been going about to rubbish the palliative programmes put on place meant to cater for the poorest of the poor. Last August, the Federal Government announced a N5 billion palliative for each state of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, to cushion the impact of the removal of the petrol subsidy. It is instructive to note that the federal government was specific in saying that the palliative is not meant for everybody but for the most vulnerable people in various communities across the country. The term, 'poorest of the poor' was used in some instances to categorize those who should benefit. The Chairman, Riders and Owners of Motorcycles Organisation (ROMO) in Ogun state, Dr. Sotayo Olusola Rasak has appealed to passengers to report any form of reckless driving by Okada riders to the appropriate authorities in the state. Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has instituted a Scholarship Award scheme for 550 indigent students in Remo Federal Constituency of the state in honour of his late son, Gbemiga Abiodun, who died six years ago. The scholarships cover pupils in primary and secondary schools as well as those in vocational and tertiary institutions.  The scholarship was spread across all schools in its coverage area. Speaking at the launch of the Gbemiga Abiodun Education Scholarship Award held at Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area, Prince Abiodun said the scheme will ensure that brilliant students and those whose parents could not afford to educate them, have access to quality education. According to him, the number of beneficiaries will increase to 1000 in the next 12 months, which will be the minimum at any given time.
