Ogun Tribunal: Abiodun closes defence after calling six witnesses

The second respondent at the Ogun State Election Petition Tribunal, Governor Dapo Abiodun, on Tuesday closed his defence of the petition filed against his reelection by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ladi Adebutu.

Mr Abiodun in his defence accused Mr Adebutu of engaging in vote buying which according to him led to “willful disruption” of election by suspected thugs.

The governor, who opened his defence on Friday, called six witnesses, including an official of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and a staff of Zenith Bank, voters and party agents.

Mr Abiodun also tendered documents including his West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate, the report of the production of 200,000 units of top-up ATM cards by Mr Adebutu, a letter of authority from the petitioner to open a Zenith Bank account from which the top-up cards were preloaded with N10,000 each and a paper showing the sample of the preloaded cards.

At the hearing on Tuesday, counsel to Mr Abiodun, Wole Olanipekun (SAN), called their last witness, Solomon Sanyaolu, who was the director-general of Mr Abiodun’s campaign committee.

Mr Olanipekun also tendered a report of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and a police investigation report.

The tribunal, led by Hamidu Kunaza, admitted the documents and marked them as evidence.

The APC is expected to open its defence on Wednesday, being the third respondent in the petition

The Chicago State University (CSU) has responded to the request by former vice president Atiku Abubakar in line with an Illinois, United States (U.S.) court order. In its response, the CSU insisted that it does not keep copies of diploma certificates issued to students. It also confirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu graduated from the school in 1979. The CSU said Tinubu graduated in 1979 with a bachelors degree in Business Administration. It, however, said that after diligent search it was able to find some but not give the names because of privacy concerns. It further said that it could not find that of Tinubu which Atiku claimed was presented by the president to INEC. The university said it found some diploma certificates with the same font as the one being queried by Atiku.

AMORAN Inaugurates Otunba Taofeek Sokoya as New State Chairman In Ogun

The Articulate Motorcycle Owners & Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN) in Ogun State has officially inaugurated Otunba Taofeek Sokoya as the new chairman of the union. The inauguration ceremony took place today at the union's state secretariat in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. The leadership transition duly follows the resignation of the former chairman, Otunba Nurudeen Aina Alowonle. In response, the union's executive members unanimously elected Otunba Sokoya as the new chairman, entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the organization. The event was marked by the presence of prominent dignitaries, including the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, and the Ogun State Commissioner for Transport, Engr. Gbenga Dairo. Also in attendance were the union’s deputy chairman, Mr. Kazeem Lawal, along with other members of the state executive council.

In what appears as transition of leadership, Otunba Taofeek Sokoya (a.k.a Danku) has been unanimously voted as the new Chairman of the Articulate Motorcycle Owners & Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN).
