Tinubu moves into Glass House as Villa renovations continue

President Bola Tinubu has yet to move into the main residence even after relocating to the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja, and is only occupying the Glass House, a smaller structure just opposite the main residence, The PUNCH observed.

This development comes after the president has spent 63 days in office since being sworn in on May 29.

A senior Presidency official confirmed to our correspondent that President Tinubu moved to the Glass House on Sunday night where he will remain until the 32-year residence is fully renovated.

The official residence has been under renovation since April leaving the president to operate from his private residence in Asokoro since his inauguration.

Until this week, Tinubu had been operating from his private residence in Asokoro but made the recent move days after commuters decried the daily road closures to pave the way for his convoy.

A viral video footage released last week showed a lengthy gridlock and a background voice lamenting commuters’ daily experience in Asokoro as they waited for the president to pass.

Our correspondent learned that the president intended to relocate to the villa in September after renovations are completed in August. However, he may have changed his mind due to public pressure.

Multiple sources had also worried about adequate security around the president in a residential area rather than his official residence in the Aso Rock Villa.

On the nature of renovations to be made, The PUNCH learned that the residence was being coated with paint, while some of its sections were being cleaned and fumigated.

The renovation, which largely entailed finishing, fittings and the change of some security apparatus will include the provision of new sets of furniture to be determined by the President.

“You know that most of the structure is white. So, the renovation will involve repainting the stained sections and replacing fittings that have gone weak or bad.

“The furniture may not be changed. But that will depend on the new President,” the source had said.
